How Much Do Rappers Make?

How Much Do Rappers Make

As we keep talking about how artists make money, a common question is, “How much do rappers make per show?” Many rappers who are just starting out ask this question because they want to know how much their favorite rapper is making.

Knowing how much money their favorite rapper makes reinforces their idea that the rapper lives big and is in charge, and it keeps alive their dream of making it in the music business like their heroes.

There’s nothing wrong with that because up-and-coming rappers and music fans, in general, both think of themselves as idols. In this article, I’ll briefly talk about how rappers get paid to perform and how much they make per show.

How do rappers make money from their shows?

Rappers get paid for shows in two ways:

1) From the sales of show tickets

When a place books an artist for a show, they start advertising the event to get people to buy tickets. The venue owner and the artist’s management work out the price of the tickets. Based on the artist’s performance fee and how many tickets they think will be sold, they figure out how much the artist will get paid.

A flat performance fee, also called a guarantee, is something an artist can ask for. How much is the least an artist can make? There is also a percentage of ticket sales, which is usually between 85% and 90% of the ticket sales’ net profits. This percentage is so high because the artist and his management get to decide how much they want to get paid. This depends on how well-known the musician is at the time.

2) Fee for getting a license to perform

Performing Rights Organizations have been talked about many times before. They are pretty much a painter’s best friend. Their job is to give performance licenses to places where music is played, collect the money from those places, and give it back to the artists.

Venues have to pay this fee to artists because they are playing their music, which is their copy right material. If a venue wants an artist to play one of their songs, they have to pay a licensing fee. It sounds like a good thing to be an artist, doesn’t it? This is how rappers make a lot of money. Making money upon money.

Rappers can also make money by selling merchandise and getting fans to pay extra money to take photos with them and get autographs from the artist. Most of the time, this is part of a VIP package.

How much do artists make when they perform?

This will be different for each artist. If you are a famous artist, you can charge between $30,000 and $100,000 per show as a flat fee. If you do your research, you’ll find that Jay-Z, Drake, and Kanye West make between $80,000 and $100,000. (as of today). These are big names who are very popular.

Artists who are not signed to a label are at the bottom of the scale. This group of rappers asks for anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000. I’m talking about well-known and popular artists who work independently or in the underground. There won’t be that much for new artists.

Most new artists get paid in drinks or a $30–$50 open mic night fee. In conclusion, your grind determines your pay! That’s all there is to it. Go put in a lot of effort to get your music out there and gain fans, so that you can start making a lot of money soon.
